Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

America is a quilt of many colors, consisting of the fabric of many cultures intricately stitched together to create a uniquely American experience. It’s important to recognize the contribution of the individual cultures that have come together to sew America’s greatness. Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized from September 15 to October 15 each year, and it is a great time to pay tribute to the invaluable voices and actions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

A bit of history: President Lyndon Johnson declared Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968. The week was expanded to a month under President Ronald Reagan in 1988, thanks to legislation submitted by U.S. Rep. Esteban Torres. September 15 was chosen as the day to begin because it is the day that Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua won their independence.

“It is so important to preserve culture, and to recognize each other’s contributions in society. Hispanic Heritage Month is just one way to do that,” says KB Staffing team member Yuliana Perez. Whether you look for public events to take part in or you just enjoy a spicy Hispanic meal, there are many ways to mark the occasion.

From entertainment to politics, arts and fashion to science and literature, Hispanic and Latino Americans have left an indelible mark on American culture. We encourage all of our contract workers to take some time this month to think about how Hispanic culture has influenced them. Yuliana tells us, “We can learn so much from each other. No matter where you are from, you are a product of your culture. When we listen to people from other cultures, we can enrich our own lives and experiences.”

KB Staffing is proud to have Yuliana on our staff, as well as all of the other Hispanic and Latino Americans who work for us in part time and full time temp jobs. We have staffing solutions for everyone, so if you are looking for a full service staffing agency that respects the diversity and commitment of our workforce, look no further than KB Staffing.
