Love Yourself: Tips for Getting a Better Night’s Sleep and Increasing Work Productivity

It sounds so simple, and yet most working Americans have trouble obtaining it.  We’re not talking about a great job or productivity while on the clock, but rather, something that has a direct effect on it— the quality of sleep you had the night before.

During the month of February, we want to encourage our employees, temp workers, and all our community to focus on showing themselves a little love and getting a good night’s sleep.  According to the National Sleep Foundation, getting a quality night sleep can do the following for you the next business day:

  • Your memory— and your employer— will thank you. When you’re sleep-deprived, your memory is one of the first things to suffer.  Whether you currently have a job in Polk County or you’re looking for one, keeping your mind sharp and on-task is essential, and getting an adequate amount of zzz’s can give your brain the memory boost that it needs.
  • You’ll have a sharper mind. Since we specialize in finding workers for warehousing operations, construction crews, and more in Central Florida, we can’t emphasize enough how important it is to keep your mind sharp.  In industries such as these, workers (whether temp or permanent) must make split-second decisions that impact the overall progress of the day.  Getting enough sleep is critical for keeping the mind sharp.

So, we’ve talked about what a good night’s sleep can do for you while on the job, but what steps can you take to actually improve your quality of sleep?  The National Sleep Foundation has some great insight on that, and we thought we’d share:

  • Develop a “sleep schedule.” If you develop a regular time for going to bed and waking up in the morning, even on weekends, your body and mind will benefit.
  • Get a minimum of seven hours of sleep. For adults ages 26-64 years old, the National Sleep Foundation recommends getting seven to nine hours of sleep.  You can do this by making sure there are no factors that could disrupt sleep, such as lights, or partners who snore.
  • Finally, make sure your mattress is in good shape. A mattress has exceeded its life expectancy after nine to 10 years, so if you’ve had one for longer than that, it could be hurting your efforts for a good night’s rest.
