Polk County Business News Highlights Expo

The 1,000-member Puerto Rican/Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Polk County, teaming up with its sister chambers throughout Florida, will be hosting an International Business Expo intended to show what can be offered by Florida to the international business community. The 2014 Business Convention for the Americas/Mission Florida will be held on October 16 and 17 at The Lakeland Center.

This informative two-day business-to-business event will also include a job fair, forums on Hispanic affairs, seminars, and guest speakers from around Florida. The Expo and job fair are free and are open to the public. There is a varying cost for attending seminars and forums.

The purpose of the Expo is to provide a unique opportunity to showcase Florida to an important group of business people. Attendees will be encouraged to consider going into business or building their current businesses and to also work closely with their non-Hispanic business colleagues.

Ana Rivera, founder and president of the Polk chamber, says the goal of the Expo is to show Hispanic and non-Hispanic business owners that they can work together to build prosperity in Polk County.

The U.S. Census Bureau has reported that, between April 2010 and July 2013, Polk County’s Hispanic population increased by 11.3 percent, which is higher than the 7 percent increase in the United States and the 9.4 percent increase in Florida.

This will be the second Convention for the Americas/Mission Florida. The first took place in September in the Greater Fort Lauderdale-Broward County Convention Center.
