Resume standards do change over time, and KB Staffing wants you to stand out from the crowd by highlighting your skills and experience in a way that is both eye-catching and easy to understand. Here are a few tips for making your resume clear and concise.
- K.I.S.S. “Keep it simple, stupid!” We don’t really think you’re stupid, but the point is to not overcomplicate something that can be said simply. You want your resume to be easy to quickly scan and comprehend.
- Objective is OUT. Once upon a time, everyone put their personal, career objective front and center on their resume. Well, times have changed, and now what employers really want to know is what value you can bring to their team. Use a “summary statement” at the beginning of your resume to emphasize what special skills you bring to the table.
- Start with the recent past. List your work experience in reverse chronological order, starting with your current or most recent position and going back about 10 years.
- Give them the numbers. Wherever you can, quantify your experience. List specific amounts of time at a job, how frequently you performed a task, how many people you worked with, how much money you brought into the company through sales, or anything else that you can represent with a number.
