There’s been a lot of talk lately about “quiet quitting.” Here at KB Staffing, we’re not fans of that idea. Let’s consider what prompts this state and what you can do instead of it.
What Is ‘Quiet Quitting’?
The concept of quiet quitting is nothing new. It simply means that you’re doing the bare minimum to keep your job at work. There’s no effort made to excel, and there may be a growing disconnect between the employee and the company. We at KB Staffing do not advocate for this practice, but we understand some of the reasons a person might engage in such behavior.
Burnout, frustration with a lack of appreciation from an employer, loss of faith in a company’s values, or just wanting to leave the job without having to resign can all be possible motivations for quiet quitting. The problem is that quiet quitting can create a more stressful environment for co-workers, while also damaging the disengaged worker’s future job prospects.
Losing motivation at work can result in subpar work, causing coworkers to have to pick up the slack. Management will notice sooner or later, and there could be repercussions in terms of negative evaluations, disciplinary action, even termination. This could cause financial hardships for your family and make it difficult to secure another position elsewhere when you can’t get a good recommendation from a disappointed employer.
Ultimately, quiet quitting is just a waste of everyone’s time. If you don’t want to be at that job anymore, why stay at all? If you don’t want to leave, maybe it’s time to have a frank discussion with your boss about your concerns or frustrations. At the end of the day, quiet quitting means you’re just sitting around twiddling your thumbs at a job you hate instead of getting out there and finding your niche where you can really make a positive impact.
